Peter narrates this work as he tells the story of
his life with Christ. In each of
the monologues, he also quotes biblical texts from First and Second Peter.
I designed this cantata to be very efficient. As you use prepare, you may use the first
three pieces in the weeks leading up to Easter as they are general in
nature. Three songs focus on the
events of Holy Week. “The Empty Tomb” is perfect for Easter Sunday. “Do You Love Me” is for after
Notice also that among the nine pieces, there is a
solo song and “The Call” which is a reprise of “What Is Your Passion? And
“Upon This Rock”. This means that
the choir will need to learn six pieces, plus a few phrases of the
familiar tune, “Were You There?”
This cantata may be sung before, during and after
Easter. It would feel very
appropriate as a presentation even in May to finish out a choir year.
